Girls Aloud have entered the Guinness Book of Records for the most consecutive top ten singles, beating both Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls. “Call the Shots” has a tuneful, catchy chorus, but was waiting for an extra bassline to go with the dance beat. I almost laughed at the beginning of this remix – you know what’s coming from the very start. But it’s beautiful and it works. The ethereal backing vocals, coupled with syncopated beats and bass make this xenomania remix a pleasure to listen to. The best bit, it has to be said, is the major-minor key change during the first verse and thereafter, just as she sings:

“All the names that you called out in bed, seem to fade
To sometime never, but”

and

“If you don’t feel that you can love me
I won’t shoot you down”

The neutral notes are just genius. Pure trance.
