Kanye West & La Roux – In For the Kill
Place this track where it belongs in the Remix Chart, Mashup Chart or Covers Chart.
There’s two options: Kanye West is beloved by his musical peers or he is truly a marketing genius. Either way, there’s no denying the prolific rapper is expanding his audience these days by collaborating with musicians of all varieties —from 30 Seconds To Mars to Bon Iver. Now he can add La Roux to that list. Today a remixed version of La Roux’s spicy track, “In For The Kill,” whose video we debuted last week, was leaked to the electro-duo’s Myspace page and it appears Kanye decided to have some fun with it as he lyrically plays on a vampire theme. You can take a listen to the track below and decide for yourself.
In his mid-tempo verse, Kanye flows over the disco beat, chat-rapping about how he’s gonna get all vicious on someone’s neck. “What’s the point if there ain’t no scars/A little teeth marks/Blood on the collar/That’s real love,” Kanye raps. West also mentions how he’s gonna turn his lover into a werewolf and how he’ll “be your vampire.” It sounds like someone’s gotten swept up in the whole Twilight/True Blood vampire craze. Can you blame the man?
Regardless, it’s great to see La Roux expanding on their already innovative musical leanings. The band’s synth-pop tendencies seem to work perfectly for hip-hop verses, so let’s hope that this solid partnership with Kanye is the first of many more La Roux-hip-hop collabos to come.
